Brandon Smith has been practicing law since graduating in 2004 from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the South Carolina Environmental Law Journal.  During school, he worked as a law clerk at the legal department of the South Carolina Department of Social Services and at large law firms in Memphis and Little Rock.

He began his legal career as an associate at Turner Padget, P.A., one of South Carolina's largest law firms.  After 8 years there, he decided to further and diversify his career by opening King, Love, & Smith, LLC, a firm he founded with two other partners in 2012.  Their firm grew to 5 attorneys and 6 staff members between their two offices.

Opening that firm also afforded him the opportunity to fulfill his long-term goal of returning to Greenwood, SC, where he was raised.  Community involvement is extremely important to Brandon, and he always wanted to be a part of Breenwood's growth and ongoing improvement.

Areas of Practice

We’re committed to providing you with top notch legal support. We approach every client with a focus on integrity, advocacy, and understanding. We fight for you!

Throughout his legal career, he has enjoyed a rather general practice, with a focus on litigation.  He has primarily defended personal injury cases on behalf of numerous insurance carriers and their insureds and has tried over 60 cases in state and federal courts, in addition to handling appellate matters.  These cases have involved negligence claims, premises liability matters, contract disputes, subrogation interests and declaratory judgment matters.  He is currently handling corporate matters for a large local client.

His practice has involved taking hundreds of depositions of litigant parties, witnesses, medical providers and other experts.  In addition, he has argued numerous motions in state and federal courts and has authored and researched supporting memorandums and briefs.  His abilities to organize and prioritize and his ability to communicate on a variety of levels have earned him a reputation as a successful and well-respected trial attorney.

Brandon is proficient in developing rapport with numerous carriers and regularly gives legal presentations and seminars to account managers and representatives.  The trust he has earned with his clients convinced them to follow him to the Law Offices of Brandon A. Smith, LLC.

He has also spent considerable time in the commercial real estate industry.  Much of his practical experience comes from his father, Dewitt H. Smith, III, the first President at Cooper Communities' Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick.  Brandon has enjoyed doing legal work for his father during his time with Cooper Communities and since he began Devereux Management Company, a real estate investment and operating firm.  This work has included reviewing and drafting commercial contracts and providing legal advice for a wide range of business matters.

His membership list includes the American Bar Association, the South Carolina Bar Association, the Greenwood County Bar Association, the South Carolina Defense Trial Attorneys Association and the South Carolina Bar Association's Young Lawyer Division iCivics Committee.  Brandon is admitted to practice in all South Carolina courts, the Untied States District Court for the District of South Carolina and the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit.  He became certified as a mediator in 2012 and participates in the alternative dispute resolution section of the South Carolina Bar Association.  He has also been involved with numerous pro bono matters and has given his time with presentations and speaking engagements.

He and his wife, Tara, are graduates of Furman University, which is where they met.  Tara played for the Furman University women's soccer team.  Brandon and Tara have been married since 2002 and have three boys- Jarratt (b. 2005), Witt (b. 2008), and Benjo (b. 2011).  Their boys are engaged in many children's activities.

The Smiths are involved in their church, Main Street United Methodist Church, where they are members of the Cornerstone Sunday School Class.  Brandon presently serves on the Board of Trustees, while his wife serves on the Staff-Parish Relations Committee.  He served on his church's finance committee for a three-year term, acted as a confirmation mentor for four years and coached church basketball for three years.  In the fall of 2014, he traveled to Honduras with the church on his first mission trip.  They spent a week rebuilding and improving an orphangage.  Their family has since begun financially supporting one of the children that he befriended on the trip.

Brandon enjoys coaching Little League baseball and received the local Pee Wee Baseball Coach of the Year Award in 2012.  He is active with volunteering events through the South Carolina Bar's Young Lawyer Division, the local Miracle League at the Burton Center and the Greenwood County Habitat for Humanity.  Currently, he serves on the boards of the Arts Center of Greenwood, the United Way of Greenwood and Abbeville Counties, and the Greenwood-Abbeville Little League.  He is also a member of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club.

Brandon plays banjo in the local band Jackson Station.  They are composed of 30-somethings and meld numerous influences, including bluegrass, country and rock 'n' roll, with some improvisation.  They play often in the local area and occassionally in other parts of the Upstate.
